After reading a call to action for a “People’s Energy Fair” by Richard Perez in Home Power Magazine\, a group of friends took to the local farm kitchen and organized The First Annual Energy Fair\, held at the Amherst\, Wisconsin fairgrounds in 1990. \nDespite a rainy forecast\, the Fair saw tremendous success\, drawing 4000 attendees. Shortly after\, the Midwest Renewable Energy Association was formed and incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with an unwavering mission to “promote renewable energy\, energy efficiency\, and sustainable living through education and demonstration”. Since then\, the MREA has grown steadily\, and in 1999 we moved to our permanent headquarters in Custer\, Wisconsin\, the current location of The Energy Fair. \nThe Energy Fair is the nation’s longest-running event of its kind\, bringing together renewable energy and green living enthusiasts since 1990. Having evolved into a single-day\, consumer-focused event\, the Fair will be held on Saturday\, June 22\, 2024 at the MREA headquarters in Custer\, WI and will host a competitive selection of workshops\, demonstrations\, exhibit booths\, and the usual music and fun that has always been at the heart of the Fair. \n \n\nPre-sale tickets on sale until midnight on Tuesday\, June 18\nDay of Tickets: Available Saturday\, June 22 at the Front Gate.\nAdmission to Friday’s Industry Demo Day is not included with Saturday’s Energy Fair ticket purchase.\nJoin as an MREA Member to get into the Fair for free\nStart the day with the Rise Up & Race 5K\nEnjoy live music\, vegan food options\, and a variety of educational workshops\, demonstrations\, and exhibitors\nView our special events line up and workshop schedule\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAdult admission : $25 \nSenior 65+/ Student Ages 12-18 admission : $15 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMember and volunteer admission : FREE! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nAbout Portage & Main\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Our head office is located in Prince Albert\, Saskatchewan\, Canada. All proceeds go directly to the club for improvements of the grounds. New buildings and attractions are added each year for you’re viewing pleasure. Without your support these projects would be impossible. \nOver 500 members belong to LSCPPA and monthly meetings are held at the American Legion Hall in Le Center\, MN. every 4th Thursday of the month. The board of directors is made up of 4 officers and 6 directors and meets one week before the monthly meeting. \nBesides monthly meeting\, several fun-filled events are scheduled throughout the year for the members such as a club picnic in September\, a Christmas party\, and a banquet and dance in February. \nEach year Pioneer Power makes a food donation to several area food shelves\, and donates $1000 every year to the “DARE” program. An educational grant is given out each year to a deserving high school senior. \nAlong with the fun goes work\, so starting May 1st and lasting through September\, every Tuesday evening and every other Saturday are work nights and days. \nThe two large fundraising events for the club are the SWAP MEET held the last weekend in April and of course\, the PIONEER POWER SHOW held the last weekend of August. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTHINGS TO SEE AND DO AT PIONEER POWER\n\n\nSteam/Gas/Horse Power\, Threshing and Plowing\, Earth Moving Equipment\, Straw Baling\, Cutting and Binding Corn\, Silage Cutting\, Corn Shelling\, Antique and Classic Tractors\, Sawmill\, Veneer Mill\, Shingle and Lathe Mills\, Lumber Planner\, Gas Engine Grove and Walker engine shed\, Miniatureland and Railroad\, Steam Engines\, Huge Stationary Steam and Diesel Engines\, Blacksmith Shop\, Lexington Church\, Tractor Pulls\, Log Cabin\, Fire Hall\, Shoe Repair Shop\, Post Office\, Broom Making\, Pioneer Ladies Bldg.\, Print Shop\, Stage Entertainment\, Childrens Playground and Barnyard\, 1896 School\, Ag Heritage Museum\, Creamery\, 1940’s Gas Station and Repair Shop\, Parade\, Kids Pedal Pull\, Granary\, Barn\, Country Store\, Summer Kitchen\, Rock Crushing and much more. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNO FLEA MARKET \nShow History \n\n\nIt’s that time of year that any true southern Minnesota flea market fanatic awaits. \nThis weekend\, over 800 vendors trading in vintage farming equipment\, antique furniture\, homemade metalwork and much more will be flocking to the Pioneer Power Showgrounds from all across the country for the 47th annual Pioneer Power Swap Meet. \nThe three-day event\, held between Friday April 26 through Sunday April 28 the Pioneer Power Showgrounds is a draw to thousands of customers and sellers ready to exchange their prized possessions. Between vintage toys\, antique furniture\, homegrown foods and rare vehicle parts\, there’s an endless array of items in store for those willing to trek the 130-acres worth of sales spread across the showgrounds. \n\n“Expect the unexpected\,” said Pioneer Power President John Thelemann. “It’s amazing how the different variety of items that come into the swap meet. It used to be heavy iron and tractor parts\, but now it’s expanded to home crafts and stuff like that. It’s not just for the hardcore collector of iron\, it’s a good attraction for ladies and gals who want to decorate their rooms with neat artifacts and stuff like that.” \nThe Pioneer Power Swap Meet has established a foothold in the flea market world being one of the region’s largest and earliest events in the swap meet season. Over the years\, the event has attracted vendors from all 50 states\, Canada and even sellers from Ireland\, Belgium and other nations overseas. \n“We’re kind of the first of the season for this type of thing so they’ll come here to Le Sueur and then there’s other ones the next weekend and the next weekend. So they kind of progress and go on from one to the next\,” said Thelemann. “There’s a lot of retired people who make their living selling stuff and they pretty much run the circuit and we’re the start in the northern USA.” \n\nIn its 47 years of festivities\, the Pioneer Power Swap Meet had endured plenty of rain\, snow and sleet. But whether the weather is sunny or stormy\, Pioneer Power Showgrounds consistently brings in well over 700 sellers. \n“We always fight weather\, but that does not deter people from vending or the people coming in to buy. They like to make a joke of it\, and complain a little bit\, but nobody can change the weather and they still come\,” said Thelemann. \nIn preparation for this year’s Swap Meet\, Pioneer Power debuted a new youth hauler certification program\, allowing young people between the ages of 12 and 17 to operate golf carts and lawn mowers on the showgrounds to help guests and vendors haul their items. The program provides safety training to youth haulers and will be required every year they plan to participate. \n\nIn addition to the vendor sales\, guests will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy meals and snacks at Thresher’s Kitchen or one of the 15 outside vendors offering food at the showgrounds. \nIf there’s anything you want\, or didn’t know you wanted\, Thelemann said there’s a good chance you can find it at the swap meet. \n“Le Sueur has been known for being the go-to place to find that oddball thing but they always make the comment that if you want to find what you’re looking for\, come to Le Sueur because somebody will have it\,” said Thelemann. \nIf You Go The Pioneer Power Swap Meet is free to enter Friday\, Saturday and Sunday April 26-28 between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. The Pioneer Power SHowgrounds are located six miles east of Le Sueur at 34605 265th Ave. \nSCHEDULE OF EVENTS \nMusic and dance in Pioneer Hall till 11 pm Friday and Saturday nights. \nFriday\, August 23 “The Leon Olsen Show” \nFriday\, August 23 “Swinging Country Band withPhyllis Hummel” Jolly Brewers Band \nSaturday\, August 24“OLD WORLD BATTLE OF THE BANDS”The Jolly Brewers led by Jon Dietz and the Babe Wagner Band led by Jerry Minar.Bands alternating every hour. \nSaturday\, August 24Kids State Sanctioned Pedal Pull \nSunday\, August 25 Tim Chlan Band \nSunday\, August 27 “Mitchell Hall and The Tennessee Trio”(A Tribute to Johnny Cash) \n \n \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nAbout Portage & Main\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Our head office is located in Prince Albert\, Saskatchewan\, Canada. The OVSGA was formed\, and J.H. Findlay of Arnprior was named the first OVSGA President. Together with the help of local agricultural representatives\, the group held the first seed fair at Renfrew Collegiate. The introduction of new and better varieties\, merchandizing of increased production\, and the continual updating of agricultural information were the founding objectives of the Seed Fair\, and continue to drive the modern rendition of the show. \n\nShow History\n\n\n\nThe Seed Fair became an annual event\, rotating throughout Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec\, between the home communities of the association’s presidents. It travelled through Almonte\, Pembroke\, Kemptville\, Cornwall\, Perth\, and many towns in between. It eventually developed into a Championship Seed\, Feed\, and Forage Show\, where exhibitors were required to compete at the county level shows for the opportunity to bring their entries to the next level. Over time\, the Championship Seed Show added equipment and trade show components\, eventually becoming the Ottawa Valley Farm Show. In 1959\, the OVFS settled into Lansdowne Park in Ottawa\, where it remained until moving to its current location\, the EY Centre in Ottawa\, in 2012. OVFS is now Ontario’s longest running agricultural trade show with more than 360 exhibitors occupying over 200\,000 square feet under one roof. \nToday\, the OVFS is an extensive tradeshow\, bringing together farmers and industry professionals to facilitate networking and sharing of information. The OVFS continues to boast its seed show roots\, proudly displaying the Court of Honour at the centre of the show. Days before OVFS\, the annual Ottawa Valley Championship Seed\, Feed and Forage Show welcomes top entries from all local county seed shows\, seeing almost 200 exhibitors enter up to 600 exhibits. Entries are evaluated by a team of judges\, and winning entries are then showcased in the Court of Honour along with 4-H field crop and life skills exhibits. The OVSGA recognizes and rewards the achievements of winning exhibitors at the annual Seed Show Awards Ceremony held at OVFS. \nThe OVSGA actively engages in the community through various events throughout the year\, and is honoured to hold the annual Prestigious Pedigreed Seed Sale at OVFS. This auction sale\, originally created in 1992 to showcase and sell quality pedigreed seed\, now offers a range of pedigreed seed\, products\, and services. Thanks to the generosity of partners\, exhibitors\, and visitors\, the sale has raised more than $180\,000 for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. Following the auction\, many of the lots of pedigreed seed are donated to The Canadian Food Grains Bank. \nThe modern day OVSGA is a dynamic not-for-profit group\, run by a dedicated volunteer board of more than 25 Directors. Directors are farmers and agribusiness representatives from across Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. Each of the 11 Eastern Ontario counties as well as Western Quebec nominate a county representative\, and Directors at Large (Regular and Honorary) complete the board. The association is deeply involved in the community\, and celebrates and supports many local and agricultural charitable groups and initiatives\, as well as agricultural research\, knowledge\, education\, and advocacy. In addition to those initiatives\, the OVSGA is proud to work with committee members and the OVFS General Manager to plan and host the annual Ottawa Valley Farm Show. \nSCHEDULE OF EVENTS \nMarch 12th | 9AM – 5PM \n11:00 amOfficial OVFS 2024 Grand Opening and the 2024 commodity market outlook. This event honors the forestry industry. This gathering is a major stop on the lumberjack and lumberjill competition circuit.  The Field Days bring together a huge variety of forestry-related displays of interest to both the professional logger and the occasional firewood cutter. \nBoonville is a small picturesque town located in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in central northern New York State. With its long history of logging and its ideal location – directly on Route 12 and a short hour drive from Syracuse\, Utica\, or Old Forge – Boonville is the perfect location for this event. \nThe NYS Woodsmens Field Days\, a nonprofit organization\, was founded by the Rev. Frank Reed in 1948. With the support of over 400 volunteers\, the Field Days have evolved into one of the predominant lumberjack contests in the United States today. Contestants come from as far away as Canada\, Australia\, and New Zealand to compete in the festivities. Woodsmen’s contests are held all day Friday\, Saturday\, and Sunday. All weekend there are hundreds of displays of various forestry-related equipment\, chainsaw carving demonstrations\, safety demonstrations\, and more. \nWhile the primary goal of the NYS Woodsmen’s Field Days is the promotion of the forest industry\, the original intent of Rev. Reed is still taken into consideration: to honor the lumberjack\, a vanishing breed of men. \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nAbout Portage & Main\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Our head office is located in Prince Albert\, Saskatchewan\, Canada. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nAbout Portage & Main\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Our head office is located in Prince Albert\, Saskatchewan\, Canada.
